Building Design

Conceptual Building Design

When you have the desire to create your new dream home or perfect work space, I can help you get off to the right start with conceptual design services. This provides the crucial link to translate your visions, and the information from a geomantic site analysis, into physical forms that fit harmoniously into a natural or urban landscape, express your intentions, and satisfy your physical and spiritual needs.

Employing sacred geometry to design with the knowledge of the proportions found in plants, animals, and the human body is a sophisticated way to create a cohesive environment in which all the elements relate harmoniously to each other and to the whole.

I have working relationships with architects and contractors familiar with geomancy, who can develop the design and working drawings, and construct the building, staying true to the original intentions.

Review of Architectural Designs

Having your architectural plans reviewed from a feng shui perspective, at the earliest possible stage, will ensure that you create the most harmonious and aesthetically pleasing arrangement of spaces; the best possible, functional relationships between the many activity areas; and smooth, effortless ways to move between and through the spaces within a building. My combined background in architectural design, environmental psychology, and feng shui enables me to predict how a space will feel to live in and to catch design mistakes before they are set in stone. It is so much easier and less expensive to make changes with an eraser than with a sledge hammer.

I can also "fine tune" a building design by applying my knowledge of sacred geometry and Nature’s proportioning systems to ensure that all the parts relate harmoniously to each other and to the whole.

In the case of remodeling projects and additions, applying Nature’s proportioning systems greatly helps create aesthetically pleasing results. Sacred geometry can guide the size and shape of an addition so that it looks like it fits the original building, and doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb. I start by analyzing the existing building to determine if it is proportioned by any of the harmonics or geometrical ratios found universally in Nature. If so, then I can create a geometrical grid to extend the same harmonics into the new addition. Even when building facades or room layouts don’t abide by any natural proportional system, another method based on musical harmonics can be applied to harmonize the elements. Other techniques of sacred geometry provide ways to take advantage of additions or remodeling projects to rebalance a facade, bring the new parts into harmony with the whole, or re-subdivide a space to abide by natural proportions.

Testimonials

“Richard is the only Feng Shui person I know who deals with the problems of culturally-specific rules that don’t make sense for America. He has created a ‘Geomancy for Westerners,’ by pulling out the universal principles of good design, and filtering out the rules that are only relevant if you live in the hot climate of India or the cold, windy plains of northern China.” — Claudia Cleaver, architect, Petaluma, CA
